After winning the Palme d'Or in 2021 for "Titane," Julia Ducournau returns with her third feature film, "Alpha." This more intimate film explores themes influenced by the director's experience growing up during the AIDS epidemic of the '80s and '90s.
"Alpha" stars Mélissa Boros, Tahar Rahim ("The Serpent"), Golshifteh Farahani ("Extraction"), and Emma Mackey ("Sex Education"). The story centers on a troubled 13-year-old girl living with her single mother. Their lives are turned upside down when the girl comes home from school with a tattoo on her arm, coinciding with the outbreak of a mysterious virus that transforms bodies into marble and is spreading throughout society.
