Description

In 18th century Denmark, Captain Ludvig Kahlen, a proud but impoverished war hero, embarks on a mission to cultivate an unforgiving land, aiming to farm, establish a colony, and gain noble status. He faces off against the ruthless nobleman Frederik De Schinkel, forming an alliance with a couple who fled De Schinkel's grasp. As they build a community, a violent showdown with De Schinkel becomes imminent.

This epic historical drama film directed by Nikolaj Arcel, features a stellar cast including Mads Mikkelsen, Amanda Collin, and Simon Bennebjerg. The movie is based on Ida Jessen's novel "The Captain and Ann Barbara" and is a collaborative production between Denmark, Germany, and Sweden. Premiering at the 80th Venice International Film Festival, the film competed for the Golden Lion and was chosen as Denmark's submission for the Best International Feature Film category at the 96th Academy Awards, making it one of the 15 finalist films in the December shortlist.
