Set in 1981, “The Quiet Girl” tells the story of Cáit, a young girl who is sent away from her neglectful family to live with “her mother’s people”. Living with a middle-aged couple she has never met, Cáit keeps to herself. With the help and love of her new caretakers, she starts to blossom and grow. But in a house where there are meant to be no secrets she discovers one painful truth.
In addition to winning seven awards at the 18th Irish Film & Television Awards, “The Quiet Girl” broke box office records for the opening weekend of an Irish-language film and became the highest-grossing Irish-language film of all time.
